Born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Laurie played his junior hockey in Western Canada with the Brandon Wheat Kings, where he was drafted in the 1st round, 9th overall, in 1979 by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Having played three seasons with the Leafs, subsequent trades took him to Edmonton, Winnipeg, and New Jersey, and finishing with the expansion Ottawa Senators.

After serving as the 1st captain of the modern day Senators, Laurie retired in `93.

Since 1993, Laurie has served as Eastern Ontario’s Director of Hockey Ministries International (HMI). Chapel programs at the NHL level down through Junior and Christian based hockey camps have been Laurie’s focus over the last 24 years. www.hockeyministires.org

Currently, Laurie also serves as the President of the Ottawa Senators Alumni Association. The Alumni Association supports many community based initiatives throughout the Ottawa area.

Laurie and his wife, Andrea, reside in the Ottawa area. They have 6 adult children and 2 grandchildren.

Mitchell brings a wealth of experience and a passion for philanthropy to The Royal. Over the span of his career, he has been active in community philanthropy, and supportive of mental health initiatives in our region.

Prior to joining The Royal, Mitchell was Managing Director of Nylene Canada, a private sector company, with revenues exceeding $60 million per year, and a staff component of 100 employees. Mitchell was also the former President and CEO of The Jewish Federation of Ottawa for more than 15 years. His significant experience will be a valuable asset to The Royal, as we enter into the next phase of The Royal’s Campaign for Mental Health.

Mitchell has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is fluent in both official languages. He also has extensive experience in government at the federal level, having worked as a senior advisor to a Member of Parliament.
